Let's encorage more OS contributions.
Hello everyone,
I've been thinking about why don't we see more OS contributions to the project regarding providers and I came to two conclusions. The first one is easy to fix and I'm going to try and develop something to fix this, its:
- We need better docs on how to write a service provider plugin
The second one is harder to fix and is in the hands of project maintainers 9I hope they read and think about this post).
I believe that not allowing the lite version to connect to all service providers, such as instagram, linkedin etc hurts the project. From a developer point of view, you may feel discouraged to write something for other providers like reddit, pixelfed, bluesky and donate that code to the community because other providers are excluded, so the mentality becomes inovector needs to do it. If you're paying for a license this is also the case, the mentality is I paid for this why would I give my code away that gives me a competitive edge. Then it becomes a problem of scale and bandwidth for the maintainers.
Now I understand totally that the project needs funding somehow, theres lots of ways we as a community could support this,
- some could join a patreon style funding to support the OS lite version, they'd be more likely to do this is if they could connect to all providers imho, and theres a competitor out on the market that does (postiz), this would provide a small but regular donation channel.
- Others would contribute code and help the project grow and get better and better and community support would grow also
- Others (like me) would still buy the pro or enterprise versions because of all the extra cool features, especially the payment gateways
So my ask is if you agree with this please give it a vote and lets open that dialogue with the developers. I honestly believe this will help mixpost grow, and I'm willing to give my time to make this happen if they would like my support.
Also leave comments, and I'm open to listen to why this may not work also. Ultimately I want the project to go from strength to strength and this is just one suggestion of how i see that working.
